We grew up in the St. Louis area, were high school sweethearts who lived across the street from each other and now live in Chesterfield, MO, a suburb of St. Louis. We work with wood that we turn on the lathe as well as create laser art on wood and leather. We also weld metal and create functional horseshoe art.
Jay owns his own IT consulting firm and has been a woodworker for over 30 years, building furniture, remodeling our home and turning wood on the lathe. Sherry is a retired hospital social worker who has been woodworking for over 17 years.
We have taken workshops, private lessons, network with other wood workers and continue to evolve our style and work by experimenting with different creative methods to make our pieces artistically unique. We mix and mold a lot of the resin blanks that we turn on the lathe. A distinctive pen design of ours uses authentic vintage postage stamps (purchased from a local stamp collector) that we wrap on a pen tube. We then clear caste mold over the stamps to create the blanks that we turn on the lathe for the pen body. We use exotic imported woods from around the world as well as local repurposed Missouri woods. In addition, we segment wood to make creative wood blanks, unique segmented wood bookmarks with hand turned beads leather laced through the ends of the bookmarks, fine family heirloom wood cutting boards, wood serving/charcuterie boards and wood wine bottle/wine glass holders. The bookmarks have a quote lasered on them that famous people have said. We also create custom pieces and laser your own sayings or names on each piece of wood. We have recently started using our new CNC machine to create, as well as enhance the art that we make.
We are Juried Wood Artists in the Best of Missouri Hands Artisans Association . We are also juried members of the Greater St. Louis Art Association in the wood category. We have been juried into and participate in many art shows throughout Missouri. We have received an invitation to and participated in The Missouri Botanical Gardens Best of Missouri Market for the past seven years.
We have four adult children, six grandchildren, a very sweet Goldendoodle dog and enjoy traveling around the country in our motorhome camping, hiking, boating and fishing. We also enjoy photographing the beauty of the great outdoors.
